About the Retainer Service

How does a graphic design retainer work?
Simple. You get 40 hours of design time per month to complete your various marketing projects.

How much does a graphic design retainer cost?
Your rate will vary depending on the type of work involved. Please contact me to talk about your projects so we can determine your own specific rate.

OK, then what is the price range of the retainer service?
The retainer fee ranges from $2,500 - $4,000 per month. Compare this to $75,000 a year, which is the average salary for a full-time graphic designer in Toronto’s financial industry.

Does unused design time get carried over to the next month?|
Yes, you can carryover up to 20 hours from any given month to the next month for a maximum of 2 months (consecutive or non-consecutive months). They will expire in one year from the carryover date, which is plenty of time to use up the hours.

What if my 40 hours run out and I still need more design time?
Option 1: You can purchase additional design time at $85/hr.
Option 2: You can wait until the next month cycle starts, if your project deadline allows
Option 3: We can use design time from your upcoming month if other projects allow for the reshuffle

Do the 40 hours need to be used all at once in one week or can I distribute them throughout the month?
As much as possible, we will plan to use the hours during one week or five consecutive days. This is typically the case but if your design hours do not add up, I will reschedule other projects to make them fit.

Do you track your hours?
Yes, I track and share them with you while working on your projects so you can manage deadlines accordingly.

Are you the only designer?
Yes, I am the only designer unless your projects require more than 40 hours of design time per month. In that case, I will work overtime or outsource to my regular freelancers. I will educate them on your brand guidelines and edit their work before it reaches your inbox.

How many clients do you take on at once?
I take on no more than four clients at once. This allocates each client 40 hours of design time per month.

What are some common projects you can complete for us?
Sales sheets, reports, brochures, ads, infographics, presentations, web graphics, social media graphics, motion graphics, direct mail, posters, flyers, billboards, signage, banners, email graphics, photo editing, logos, icons, PDF forms, minor HTML, revising and rebranding old files.

Have a particular project in mind that wasn’t listed? Just email me to check!

What are the projects you DON’T do?
Web programming, javascript, email design, jQuery - things of that nature which are commonly handled by a web designer or coder.

What are your billing cycles?
Your credit card will be billed at the start of every month.

Do you accept other forms of payment than credit card?
Yes, we can set up a monthly direct deposit plan or by a simple mailed cheque.

What is your cancellation policy?
You may cancel at any time and you will only be billed for that current month. You can also start again at any time if I have no more than four current clients.

Pricing

How do I determine how much my project will cost?
A good place to start is on our 1hr. Quote page. There you will find a form which you can quickly fill out and submit. I will get back to you within the hour with your quote. My quotes are based on a per-project basis.

Are there any extra or hidden charges?
No. All components of your project will be itemized in your quote including shipping, if applicable.

Can a small business afford your design and marketing services?
Yes. I have priced and qualified my design services to be in line with the creative demands of government and financial institutions, as well as being cost effective for smaller businesses.

Can you do small jobs or one-off’s?
Yes. Government and financial companies often send me their smaller jobs (pamphlets, banners, logo alterations, direct mail revisions, etc.) so they can focus on completing their larger initiatives.

We require many marketing pieces to be created over time. Which is the most economical way of achieving this?
You can either hire a full-time graphic designer at $55k+ a year or you can hire me on a monthly or yearly contract. Call me at 416-999-7096 to learn more.

Billing

What are your billing policies?
New customers always pay 30% of the project once the quote has been approved. The remainder is paid upon completion. If the project lasts more than 30 days, another 30% is paid at that time.

Repeat customers always pay upon completion of their projects or 30% every 30 days for longer projects.

How do you accept payment?
Current accepted methods of payment are with credit card using PayPal, cheque or online money transfer through your bank.

What happens if the project you started is no longer required?
If the project is cancelled for any reason, you will only have to pay for the amount of work performed.

My Guarantee

What if I dislike the final product?
I will redesign the piece until it is to your liking. You and I will revisit your brief to make sure your requirements are met. It’s as easy as that.

If you believe I cannot complete the work to your liking, you pay only for the work done to date.

General Graphic Design Questions

What can a Freelance Graphic Designer do for me?
A Freelance Graphic Designer can assist your company with your marketing initiatives but is not hired internally. We act as outside contractors helping only when required. This is a great benefit to companies who cannot afford to hire an internal Graphic Designer ($75,000/year is the current average salary for a Graphic Designer), or for companies with an overflow of design work.

Why do I need a Graphic Designer?
A Graphic Designer can keep you in touch with your target market by designing your…

  • company image to let customers know who you are

  • proven track record and satisfied customers

Are you bonded? (legally eligible to work with government or financial companies)
Yes. I'm incorporated as well meaning I'm HR department-friendly.
